Artist Statement

Artist Statement

Despite my shift to the musical arts, the visual arts have always been part of my life. Art in any form has always served me as a form of self-expression, a look into the furthest recesses of my mind that even I may not understand. My art is full of questions and experimentation. Instead of trying to answer a question, I want my art to inspire questions. I want my art to push the boundaries of reality and existence while indulging in a unique visual/audio experience that may leave the viewer wondering what exactly they just experienced. The journey is just as, if not more, important than the destination and the same applies to my art. I want my audience to resonate with the aesthetic effects just as much as with the message of my art.

Probably what has influenced me to want to make art that is aesthetically indulging was my interest in music that creates an atmosphere or provides a unique listening experience. While many bands have shaped my desire to make music, the bands that have influenced me the most include Tesseract, the Contortionist, Russian Circles, and Cynic; all bands that focus on creating dynamic and contrasting moods in their albums that range from soaring melodies to hard hitting rhythms. My goal is to translate this into a visual representation and follow the ups and downs, the changes in mood, and emphasis on a surreal atmosphere that these bands create. I want to attach imagery and visuals to the music I make and the music that has inspired me.
